In a society that prizes “making it on your own,” asking for help feels dangerous. For many trauma survivors, hyper-independence became a shield: If I don’t need anyone, no one can let me down.
From Rooted to Nested
Being Rooted (self-regulated) is vital, but being Nested (held by others) is just as critical. We are biologically wired for co-regulation. A calm nervous system can literally calm down an anxious one just by being in the same room.
Healing requires safe witnesses. It requires a “nest”—a place where you can fall apart without being judged, and where you are reminded of your worth when you forget it.
